Do you know anyone who thought the Toronto Maple Leafs would make it into the playoffs this year? Not many people believed they could make it this far and just take a look they're are going into game 6 of round 1. The Toronto Maple Leafs are really giving the Washington Capitals a run for their money. I think that if Toronto stays positive and believes they can force a game 7 to happen they will have a good shot. Think about it the Maple leafs kicking out the Capitals in the first round would be mind blowing considering no one even thought Toronto would make it into the playoffs. Most people would say this is a “development year” for the Maple Leafs, they have a team of rookies and that is why no one thought they would make it to the playoffs. Austin Matthews is no longer considered a rookie, he does not need to be trained any longer. April 23rd, Today, the Leafs are facing the Capitals after 3 teams were eliminated on the 22nd. Well i guess we can scrap that idea… *After the game* Toronto put up a fight and took the game into Overtime when Washington scored and ended the series. This loss ended a very memorable season for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Have you ever heard “ you fail before you succeed “? Well you never know what could happen this could just be the start of something great. A lot of the Leafs enjoyed the year they had and couldn't wish for anything more. I think giving Washington a good fight in the first round was good enough to satisfy them. After the game a few players were i guess you could say interviewed heres what Nazem Kadri said.. "We've still got a ways to go,". "We're climbing, though. We're on our way up. The future's bright for us. And something like this, this experience, playing a team like Washington a Cup-contending and giving them everything we had and everything they could handle certainly shows a lot of resiliency from us." In conclusion, maybe it’s not such a bad thing the Leafs lost. The excitement they felt after this round of the playoffs will carry into the next year hopefully making them a better team with room to improve, maybe even make it to the playoffs again in 2018 and hopefully make it past first round, hahaha.

Do you ever just binge watch your favourite Netflix series until you finish it? I know many people that do! According to Time magazine the average Netflix subscriber spends 1 hour 33 minutes a day streaming shows. To be honest i think this number is low. Is Netflix addicting? Honestly i would say it is because as soon as you start a “Netflix series” you can’t stop. For example over Christmas break I started Grey’s Anatomy and I just finished it over march break. It was Twelve seasons long with about Twenty-Four episodes per season. My parents tell me that I need to go to bed or do my homework and I say “oh this will be the last one.” Netflix has auto play so they just keep playing and I don’t want to stop watching. I end up staying awake really late or sometimes not finishing my homework. The body produces a hormone called ‘CRH’ which produces stress and can disturb your sleep. This is a good reason to keep going. So when one episode leaves you with a cliffhanger you push yourself through the next episode just to find out what happened. People love Netflix so much because it is the solution to boredom, it also relieves stress. Netflix is a program that has so many tv shows and movies, for the tv series you don't have to wait a week to watch the next episode because they are all already on Netflix. If you think about it when something really good happens in your show do you want to stop watching? No you want to watch the next episode so you want to know what happens next and you just can't wait a whole night to find out. I know I love to watch Netflix, I watch it everyday! I sit in my basement and watch it for hours. Netflix is something you can watch on pretty much any device whether it's a tv, phone, tablet or laptop. There aren’t any commercials or anything so you can watch a full hour show on regular TV in about 35-40 minutes! I personally prefer watching it on the tv but if I am not able to use the tv i just watch it on my laptop. Therefore Netflix is addicting but it’s not necessarily a bad thing. People should just realize how much time they are actually spending. Why do teenagers like Snapchat so much? Snapchat is a photo app that quickly sends photos back and forth that can be 1-10 seconds long, and these photos can be sent with captions or doodles/drawings. Unlike Messaging, Facebook and Instagram Snapchat brings a new dynamic to social media. The excitement of sending and receiving pictures with text is fun! Social media has expanded into more entertaining areas like adding in more and more video and picture filters. There are so many filters such as the dog filter and the sad filter. Another example would be the bunny filter which is personally my favourite, as well as the popular face swapping filter that everyone seems to enjoy. This has consistently been updating to keep itself interesting and new for users, while other social networks have mostly remained unchanged. Snapchat is a very popular app that most teenagers use. A lot of kids overuse snapchat as if it’s their whole life. Some people post everything on their snapchat stories and some people don't. Just recently they have added group chats, I myself have a group chat with girls from my hockey team and i am going to be honest they are kind of annoying; I don’t see the point of them. Streaks is probably one of the most popular things that teenagers do on Snapchat. A streak is when you Snapchat the word streak or simply just send a Snapchat to someone else for so many consecutive days. I have many streaks and my longest being around 371 days. I think Snapchat streaks are just a fun way to interact with your peers. On Snapchat there are these emojis on the right side of some people's names and they represent how much you Snapchat them. I’d say there's about 10 different emojis that all mean something different. Things such as, the stars mean it's a group chat, the baby means it’s a new friend, the fire means you have a streak with them, the one with sunglasses means you share a best friend with someone else, the nervous face means you share your #1 best friend, the smirk face means you are one of their best friends but they are not yours, the blush one means they are one of your best friends, the yellow heart means you're each other's #1best friend, the red heart means you’ve been each other's #1 best friend for 2 weeks and the pinks hearts means you’ve been each other's #1 best friend for 2 months. If you don’t have the Snapchat app yet download it today. It brings so many laughs and can create many memories with your friends and family. It is also a great way to communicate. First impressions could change they way we think of others. The other day, I came across this documentary on identical twins, they gave 1 twin gum and the other twin nothing Questions ranged from “who gets invited to more parties” to “who has a better sex life.” Participants are to answer based on nothing but their impression of the people in front of them. 73% favoured those twins who chewed gum, the one chewing a gum gets chosen as the more fun, more kind and more attractive of the two.The twins not chewing gum were chosen for questions such as “Which one is more likely to get invited to bridge games?” and “Which one do you think is the bad cop?”. In this documentary the twin not chewing gum seems more boring and more of a “goody two shoes” like he won't do anything bad, he always follows the rules.
Is gum an addiction? A person can be addicted to just about anything. People may buy 15 packs of gum a day because chewing gum can calm your nerves. But the taste can be great. Once you start chewing a lot of gum you can’t stop. Gum addiction can happen to you if you don’t know how to control yourself. First, you start chewing gum because you like the taste. Then you realize that you’re chewing gum when nervous or bored. It can be used to pacify you so it seems like you have something to concentrate on. Therefore the amount of gum chewed within a day increases. After this stage your body comes to a point where it needs gum all the time to feel comfortable…While many people chew gum, few realize that it can become an addiction that can leave you with serious health risks. Here are some reasons chewing gum can affect your health. First, chewing gum could increase your intake of junk food because the minty flavour of the gum makes fruit and vegetables taste bitter. Second, chewing gum may trigger TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorder) in your jaw; Anytime you overuse a certain set of muscles, it can lead to contracted muscles and related pain, including headaches, earaches, and toothaches over time. Lastly, chewing gum can cause gastrointestinal problems because it causes you to swallow excess air, which can lead to abdominal pain and bloating seen with irritable bowel syndrome. Did you know if you were to buy 15 packs of gum a day you would chew 5,475 packs a year! |
